Welcome FIDE visitors!

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) joins the Chess in Education Coalition as its newest participant and supporter. We appreciate FIDE’s recognition of our website, and appreciate the prominent link from its edu.fide.com website to our site.

The CIE Coalition is comprised of a group of commercial and non-profit organizations supporting the goals of the Chess in Education Initiative through commitments of their time, resources, and endorsements.

To become a CIE Coalition participant, an organization must demonstrate an understanding of connections to education and be able to point to CIE elements of their program(s) incorporating CIE pedagogy. Simply offering or supporting chess training is insufficient condition for membership. Thus, relatively few chess training services qualify for membership. Organizations interested in participating in the CIE Coalition may complete the contact form on the Chess in Education Resources page.

FIDE is best know as the world governing body for competitive chess. It recognizes the social importance of the game and has created a permanent commission, the Chess in Education Commission. This Commission focuses on expanding the global outreach for chess in education.

Together with European Chess Union (also a CIE Coalition member), these organizations sponsor international Chess in Education conferences in Europe and Asia, and work with national chess federations on CIE programs. As such they are critical to the ongoing worldwide evolution of CIE.

Jerry Nash continues in a dual role as FIDE CIE Commission chairman and as a co-founder and contributor to this website and the CIE Connections newsletter. As a result, we are able to post relevant CIE News and ideas from around the globe. We hope to build upon this connection and FIDE’s work to bring more international content in the future.
